Dr. Hoyt founded the 3D Lab in 2015 to investigate how biological processes, psychological experiences, and social contexts interact during youth to influence lifelong health trajectories and inequalities. Specifically, she studies these dynamic factors across two key developmental transitions: from childhood to adolescence (puberty) and from adolescence to adulthood (emerging adulthood). Throughout this work, she uses multiple methods, including daily diaries, salivary sampling protocols, youth participatory action research (YPAR), and longitudinal developmental models. 

Dr. Rodgers is a licensed clinical psychologist and serves as a pediatric psychologist at Children’s Hospital Montefiore (CHAM) in the Hematology, Oncology and Cellular Therapy Sickle Cell Disease Program. Her research focuses on promoting Adolescent/Young Adult Health and successful transitions to adulthood for Black and Latinx youth living in low-income urban communities through health intervention. Dr. Rodgers employs resilience/strength focused models, qualitative, quantitative and community-based participatory research methods.  Areas of research include sexual behavior, substance use, mental health, and most recently chronic illness (e.g. Sickle Cell Disease). Dr. Rodgers co-mentors many students in the 3D Lab and offers unique insight as a clinical psychologist. 

Jasmine is currently a third-year student in Applied Developmental Psychology. Her research focuses on examining how experiences of discrimination shape the ethnic-racial identity (ERI) and sociopolitical development (SPD) of Black women and girls.  Her work uses qualitative and mixed methods to prioritize centering the voices of those from marginalized communities within civic engagement and sociopolitical development scholarship.

Nicola is a third-year doctoral student in the Applied Developmental Psychology program. Broadly, she is interested in how discrimination contributes to disparate mental health outcomes, with a current focus on the intersectional oppression faced by Asian American women. She is currently working on her comprehensive exam investigating the developmental impact of gendered racism/racialized sexism on the well-being of Asian women.

Angelica is currently a doctoral student in the Applied Developmental Psychology program. Her research focuses on examining the risk and protective factors associated with the college experience of emerging adults and nontraditional students with various challenges. This includes conducting research and designing programming focused on student needs and resilience, to better inform practices and techniques specific to promoting student wellbeing and overall college success.

Giovanna Rafanello is the 3D Lab Manager. She graduated from Fordham in 2023 with a B.S. in Psychology and B.A. in Italian. During her junior and senior years at Fordham, she collaborated with undergraduate and high school student Co-Investigators to enact Youth Participatory Action Research Projects (YPAR).

Frankie Osso is a post-bacc research assistant who majored in Psychology and minored in Sociology and Disability Studies. During his senior year at Fordham, Frankie along with his classmates in Dr. Hoyt’s YPAR course partnered with students of All Hallows High School to conduct a YPAR project. This year, Frankie will be assisting Dr. Hoyt with her new class of YPAR students and prepare a manuscript together on his cohort’s findings. Frankie’s research interests includes psychopathological and psychosocial outcomes of family caregivers.

Isaac is a fourth-year undergraduate student at FCRH studying psychology. He is a CSTEP student and a mentor who helps middle and high school students with school courses ranging from living environment courses to calculus. Isaac is also the president of the Minority Association for Pre-Health Students and is a mentor for the FCRH Pre-health Professions Advising Team. He loves to conduct research and is a member of the 3D Lab on the Rose Hill campus, studying the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on college students' civic action through a photovoice back study. He also conducts research at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, looking at generating Biomarkers of Disease Progression for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Outside of the academic sphere, Isaac loves music and is a local choir member at Upper Room Assemblies of God.

Violeta is a sophomore majoring in psychology. She is interested in Applied Developmental Psych, but more specifically, she is interested in learning about ways growing up in low income neighborhood or as a minority can impact child development. With this, she hopes to someday find ways to help prevent negative impacts or help those children navigate it. She is also interested in learning about Hispanic families, but hopes she can narrow down what she is interested in specifically.

 Maria is a junior majoring in Psychology and minoring in Marketing. She is interested in clinical psychology, specifically the treatment of high-risk groups. Investigations into Latin and LGBTQ+ communities also interest her, especially in relation to family dynamics and behavioral psycholgy. She worked as a STEP teacher/counselor at Fordham last summer and is excited to do research in collaboration with CCEL and the Bronx community.

 Diana is a senior majoring in Psychology and minoring in Peace and Justice Studies. During her fall semester of 2022, she joined Dr. Hoyt’s YPAR class where she worked alongside the students of All Hallows High School in order to participate in a YPAR research project. Her work with her YPAR Co-investigators and the All Hallows students continues as she now focuses on the installation of her team’s Action Plan. As a new member of the 3D Lab, Diana is excited to continue her work in the Bronx community while also furthering the growth and development of her skills in research methods, data collection and critical analytics

 Nia is an undergraduate student of Psychology at Fordham University. Her passion lies in exploring the workings of the creation of positive self identity especially in black youth. She uses her fervor to fuel her as she works with the youth department of the New York Public Library and nurtures the young black minds of the The Boys Room program. Though her yearning for answers has lead her to academic spaces beyond her home in Jamaica such as, Costa Rica and now New York, her life's purpose still lies in the social development of her home island.

Anastasia Pezza is an undergraduate senior majoring in Psychology, with a minor in Italian. She
is interested in social and educational psychology, more specifically, the role of emotion and
behavior in learning. Anastasia enjoys volunteering in her community and working with
children, and she hopes to do future research on child development and education systems.

Matthew Santamaria is a sophomore majoring in Psychology and minoring in Sociology. He is interested in the Clinical and Developmental side of Psychology, specifically in research of young adults. Matthew actively participates in both the 3E Study and YPAR, driven by his eagerness to cultivate invaluable experience and skills. Through his involvement, he aspires to unravel the intricate complexities of research, aiming to gain a deeper understanding of its multifaceted aspects.

Sade is an undergraduate junior majoring in Psychology and minoring in Visual arts. She is interested in the Clinical and Counseling side of Psychology, more specifically in relation to youth and adolescents. Sade is currently working as a Tutor/Counselor with high school students in STEP, a Peer Counselor with Fordham CPS, and will occasionally work as an EMT. Sade is excited to join the 3D Lab and is looking forward to the valuable experience!
